Right out of the box and it will not start. I followed instructions exactly. New oil and new propane. 35 degree day and instead of fishing, this ASE certified mechanic with 40 years of experience can not get this $450.00 ice auger running. I should have bought a Jiffy Pro4.

Starts easy and power to no end

This auger has been great, took it to Canada and used it drilling 48 inch ice all day chasing walleyes. Lots of power, started great in extreme cold. My only criticism is the blades bite so well u need to be sure to clear the ice shavings regularly or risk getting it stuck if you don't strike water.

I have had this auger for 2 years - 2 pulls - starts! It doesn't matter the temp. Great gas mileage. I would buy it again.

Started of with the Jiffy Pro4 Lite this year. It just wouldn't run at the elevation we fish here in Colorado. Jiffy offered to fix that problem if I payed for it. Sent it back to the retailer for a refund and purchased The Strikemaster Honda 35cc 4 stroke from Reed's. It must have been a sign from the Fishing Gods. This auger is AMAZING. It starts easy, runs quiet, and cuts like BUTTA. It only weighs 23 pounds as well. In my opinion Reed's and Strikemaster are the only way to go.

Excellent Auger

I bought the Eskimo HC40 this season and absolutely love it, One or two pull starts, fast cut and no more mixing. It had a dent in the auger bit from shipping and I called Eskimo on a Friday and had a new bottom by Monday! Great service. The motor was actually designed for propane instead of being adapted for it. Metal gears in the transmission. The 8" weighs 30lbs compared to 28 for the Jiffy LITE 8".

Will it start and cut?

Ran this auger last year and it never failed to start or cut efficiently. After 30 years of heavier smokier and harder to start augers I am sold! No gas mixing, easy starting, light weight and reliable. It starts in the coldest weather--I left it out to make sure and fast efficient holes. The biggest surprise was the lack of vibration, is cuts and runs very smooth. It had plenty of power to handle devils lake ice in February. Fished with 4 guys and 3 augers on one trip, they all wanted the 8" light jiffy.
