Mille Lacs Lake Fishing Report - 10/16/2012
WALLEYE BITE
The fishing on Mille Lacs has been excellent recently. Fishing the weed edge in 12-14 feet of water during the day has produced many walleyes and smallmouth bass. Pitching jigs and minnows has been the best presentation. Also try Northland Thumper Jigs and a 3" Impulse Paddle Minnow. These fish are being caught in Wahkon Bay, St. Alban's Bay, the Wealthwood area and the north end of the lake. The trolling bite in the evening and night time has also been very good. Try Anderson's Reef, Garrison Reef, or any of the shoreline rocks in 6-11 feet of water. Most fish are being caught on Rapala Husky Jerks, Smithwick Rattlin Rogues and Shad Raps. Blue/Silver,Gold,and Chartreuse have been the top colors.
MUSKY BITE
The musky bite seems to be picking up on all the rock reefs after dark. Try cisco or walleye colors in Bulldawgs, Medussa's and Jake crankbaits. Reports of fish up to 56" have been taken. During the day Vineland Bay has also seen some action on Musky Mayhem Supermodels and Rad Dog spinnerbaits. Look for the greenest weeds to find these fish.
PANFISH BITE
The panfish have started to bite in Isle and Wahkon Bay but they have seemed to be running small. Puddle Jumpers and Northland Bloodworms have been taking these fish. Try 8-10 feet in these areas.
Stop in and we'll try and get you on the most productive areas and mark up a map with great places to start.
