Learn More About Ice Fishing Destinations

Ice Fishing Destinations

There are so many stellar ice fishing destinations throughout the world, with many of them right here in the Northern United States. Minnesota and Wisconsin, in particular, are home to several lakes and waterways that are full of coveted fish species like muskies, walleye and pike. No matter if you go to Mille Lacs Lake in Minnesota or the Missouri River in North or South Dakota, there are fabulous fishing destinations in much of the U.S.

Choose Among Popular Ice Fishing Destinations

The way that most anglers choose which ice fishing destination to go to is by the species of fish they're hunting. For instance, if you're looking for northern pike ("northerns"), Lake Winnibigoshish in Minnesota is the place to go. This breathtaking lake is full of lush weed beds that attract 5 to 10-pound (or larger) northerns every season.

As with any fishing destination in the U.S., you will need a valid fishing license and identification in order to catch fish legally. Also, every lake or waterway has individual catch and release rules. For example, in Lake Winnibigoshish, you must release any pike over 15 pounds the same day. This prevents the sensitive balance of the natural habitat from being disrupted.

At Reeds Family Outdoor Outfitters, you'll find an endless number of supplies for your next trip up North to Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota or Northern Ontario.
